Over the past 37 years, a simple challenge taken on by three Boston College graduates—swimming across the Sound to raise $5,000—has evolved into a major annual tradition. Today, the Swim Marathon attracts nearly 190 swimmers and 100 boaters each year, generating over $1 million for a great cause.

This remarkable 25-kilometer (15.5-mile) journey from Whitehall Beach in Port Jefferson, NY, to Captain’s Cove Seaport in Bridgeport, CT, can take anywhere from 5.5 to over 10 hours to complete. It’s an inspiring test of endurance and dedication, all in support of an incredible mission!
