About Us
St. Vincent’s Medical Center Philanthropy
How Swim Across the Sound supports patients throughout the Fairfield Region
- Essentials that insurance doesn’t cover, like a wig, prosthesis or mastectomy bra.
- Help for patients who have found themselves in a financial hardship, providing for important expenses like mortgage payments, car payments, childcare-ensuring that they can focus on their recovery.
- Early detection cancer screenings for underinsured and uninsured patients who often have no other means to receive these important screenings.
- Peer programs for those in treatment so that they are not alone, ensuring that they can join support groups and be with others waging the same battle.
- Programs like yoga, massage therapy and acupuncture for those in treatment and in survivorship with a focus on strengthening each other physically, emotionally and spiritually.

Our Past, Present and Future
Since our founding by the Daughters of Charity in 1903, St. Vincent’s has been dedicated to helping patients in Bridgeport and throughout Fairfield County.
In October 2019, St. Vincent’s became part of Hartford HealthCare, the state’s most comprehensive healthcare network. Its care-delivery system spans the state with more than 500 sites of care, including nine acute-care hospitals and nationally recognized institutes, the state’s most extensive behavioral health network, a large multispecialty physician group, a regional home care system, an array of senior care services, and a large physical therapy and rehabilitation network.
St. Vincent’s Medical Center is a fully Catholic hospital. Our 11 convenient Urgent Care Centers and innovative 24-hour care options, including HHC 24/7, are improving access for a new generation of healthcare.
In 2025, St. Vincent’s Medical Center became the first Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) Cancer Center Care Partner in the United States. The new Fairfield Cancer Center on Black Rock Turnpike offers patients access to MSK’s latest research, new therapies and groundbreaking clinical trials, with more treatment options including innovative therapies not widely available.
I thank God for St. Vincent’s and the Swim Across the Sound every day.
